Schools Origin Series Launched

23rd April 2014, 22:10

Rugby League Ireland are delighted to announce a new addition to our State Of Origin Series with the introduction of the Schools State of Origin Series between Leinster and Ulster.

RLI currently run a senior State of Origin and a Student State of Origin game and with the introduction of the schools version it brings the series to three different levels within the game.

The addition of the Schools level to the series follows on from recent work developing the sport in schools in the Drogheda area in Leinster as well as in Belfast Metropolitan College in Ulster.

Students from both areas have been selected to take part in a two game competition which is the first of its kind under Rugby League Ireland.

The first meeting between the sides will take place on Wednesday 30th of April at 2pm in Belfast Metropolitans Castlereagh Campus with the second fixture taking place two weeks later on the 14th of May in Drogheda.

Speaking on the announcement Leinster Representative Conor Kelly said: “This is a great step forward for the sport in Ireland. We hope to expand the development of the sport at this level over the next year.”

“We are really looking forward to the two games as these players are the future of our game and are all excited about the prospect of playing for Leinster and Ulster.”
