Munster Masters - 5th December

The first annual Munster Masters Rugby League Tournament will be held on Saturday 5th December at Sean Choill, Corbally, Limerick.

The event, hosted by the current RLI Carnegie League Champions, the Treaty City Titans could not have gone ahead without the support of the Mid-Western Cancer Foundation, Raheen, Limerick. RLI, Munster Rugby League and the Titans are grateful for their support and hope to raise a handsome sum of money for the cause during this event and beyond.

Former Irish Internationals Barrie McDermott and Terry O'Connor lead a 70 strong UK touring party which includes former Munster, Wigan and Newcastle winger Brian Carney in an observational role! A strong Irish contingent is also expected with players arriving from Dublin, Cork, Tullamore and Sligo.

Masters Rugby League started in New Zealand in 1992 and progressed to Australia, enjoying great success and is currently engaging thousands of players.

Masters Rugby League can only be played by persons aged 35 or over, is strictly a social version of the sport and the rules are slightly modified to cater for the older gentleman. There are no winners, no champions and no cup finals. It is all in the spirit of the game rather proving a point or settling a score. The most important rule is "Everyone has to buy a drink for their opposite number".

Masters is all about Fun, Participation and Friendship

Its 13-a-side contact rugby league however players wear different coloured shorts according to their age and tackles are modified accordingly

White and Black short players(35-39 and 45-49)tend to tackle each other normally

Red short players (50-59) must be physically stopped and held. On defence, red short players must make a definite 2 handed hold on the attacker

Gold Short Players (59+) to tackle or be tackled need to just touch i.e. no tackling.

The fun starts at 1pm, it will be like nothing you've ever seen before!
