Day 2 - Tue 14th Oct 08

Not a great day, we were in the air all day, night and faced another day of the same. Its no fun travelling around the world. We were just edging to get there and get on the paddock. As sportsmen that's what we want to do, the travelling is necessary but it doesn't mean we have to like it. With all the flights, stopovers and transfers it was difficult to stay hydrated on the planes. In the stopovers we didn't have much time to get fluids or food into u8s and they wouldn't allow us to bring any back on the planes. When we got through the customs checks it wasn't like Dublin or Manchester airports, there was no where to buy water so some of us were really struggling with fluids. We had a talk about avoiding McDonalds on the transfers from our conditioner Colin but some of the lads just couldn't help themselves and nearly missed the next plane as a result, you know who you are wayne and ged. The management made the plane but even some of them couldn't avoid the McD's either. Andy you have some appetite. Dubai is apparently the biggest and best duty free in the world, a pity we didn't have a chance to explore it properly. From Dubai we headed to Bangkok, a 7 hour flight, we could sleep on this journey for a couple of hours but the management wanted most of us to sleep on the last flight if we could to be adapted for Sydney time zones as quickly as possible. The plane facilities were great though, over 200 hundred movies to chose from at each seat and a music collection to rival most radio stations. Every number 1 from 1952 to 2008 was on the hard drive as well as music to suit all tastes.

Bangkok is close to the coast but to be honest the area around the city just looked like a flood plain, fields of water everywhere, I don't think they'll be playing much rugby league there. The Bangkok to Sydney leg was quiet, most of the lads caught up on sleep. The view flying in over the great artesian basin in Australia was amazing, as was watching the horizon come up as we got closer to Mount Isa. It´s all very real now.
